Call for community volunteers to step forward
Warwickshire County Council’s Positive about Young People (PaYP) programme is reminding potential volunteers about a chance to help turn around the lives of young people in Nuneaton.
Working with national charity Youth at Risk, PaYP is running the Community Transformation Programme to help over 200 of the ‘most alienated and disengaged young people’ in the town recognise and fulfil their potential.
It hopes to provide young people with the skills to help them improve their future prospects – and in turn that of their communities – through a series of training and coaching activities.
As part of this, the team has organised a residential in Oxfordshire in April, where young people will focus on essential skills such as increasing self-esteem, teamwork and increasing confidence.
Positive about Young People is looking for practitioners already working with young people and members of the business or local community to volunteer their time either before or during the residential.
Opportunities are available in the background team leading up to the residential; the residential team, working on the logistics of the course; and committed partners, who are volunteer coaches support young people during and after the residential.
Parneet Kang, Development Manager for Early Intervention/Prevention at Positive about Young People, said: “We’ve had a very encouraging response from the local and business community so far but are welcoming as many volunteers as possible to take part.
“They are key to making this project a success, so we’re looking for people who friendly, flexible, team players and above all committed to helping turn around the lives of young people.
“They will receive all the necessary training and it will be a great opportunity to make a difference, while learning valuable skills that can be used in everyday life.”
All successful volunteers will be required to undertake a CRB check with Warwickshire County Council.
If you are interested in attending or would like further information please contact Parneet Kang at Positive about Young People on 02476 754178 as soon as possible.
