Extra NEET support for Young people in rural Stratford

It is going to be easier for young people in the rural villages of Stratford to access one-to-one support when finding employment.

The project, commissioned by Connexions Coventry and Warwickshire through Warwickshire Children and Voluntary Youth Service (WCVYS), helps those who have had difficulties finding a job write their CV, fill in applications and talk through specific issues.

Personal Advisers from Connexions Coventry and Warwickshire, Warwickshire Association of Youth Clubs (WAYC) and Lifespace have been working together on the Stratford town programme for the last 12 months, originally funded by Stratford Town Trust.

Now, following additional funding, young people in rural areas can access the services, with some of the money being used towards the cost of transport to appointments and interviews, when otherwise they couldn’t afford to travel.

Andy Bacon from Connexions Coventry and Warwickshire said: “Young people working with Connexions have been heavily involved in deciding on the services that would benefit the most.

“Employment is one of those areas that they requested additional help with and felt others, particularly in rural areas, would also find useful especially if they couldn’t afford the cost of transport to and from interviews or appointments.”

Helen Smith, Development Worker for WCVYS, said: “WCVYS worked with Connexions to help commission six projects across Coventry and Warwickshire.

“A number of voluntary sector organisations successfully applied to deliver these programmes, including WAYC and Lifespace, which will help young people in their efforts to find employment, education or training.”
