A taste of China at Warwickshire schools

Primary school pupils will be celebrating Chinese New Year by tucking into an oriental feast later this week.

To mark the festival and celebrate the Year of the Tiger, Warwickshire County Caterers will be serving the special lunch on Friday 12 February at a number of primary schools around the county.

The clever cooks have come up with an appetising Chinese inspired menu featuring sticky chinese chicken or vegetable spring rolls served with noodles or rice and a selection of vegetables.  For desert, pupils will be tucking into pineapple cake and custard or ‘fortune cookie’ biscuit platters.  Everything will be washed down with a selection of ‘drinks from a great dynasty’.

The County Caterers are the catering arm of Warwickshire County Council, the service aims to provide food that is fun to eat, healthy and varied and provides school meals to nearly every primary and almost half the secondary schools in the county.

Warwickshire County Councillor and resources portfolio holder Martin Heatley said: “This is yet another creative menu from the county’s cooks who put a lot of effort into helping children in schools around the county to enjoy a varied and balanced diet. Celebrating Chinese New Year in this way will also inspire them to learn about other cultures.”
