A night with the stars

Families from the rural areas of Rugby will get their chance to see stars thanks to a project organised by Warwickshire County Council’s Extended Services division.

‘A Night with the Stars’ sees Dr Johanna Jarvis, an astronomer, lead a session on the night sky.  The free fun workshop will be available twice in an evening, firstly for all the family in a learning session and, secondly, in a community session for adults only.

Learners will be taught to find the North Star and will get the opportunity to look at the night sky through telescopes.  These are provided but anyone with their own is urged to bring it.

Three consecutive sessions take place at three venues.  These are
23 February:  Dunchurch Infant School: family learning session 7pm-8pm, community session 8.30pm-9.30pm
24 February:  Wolvey Primary School: family learning session 7pm-8pm, community session 8.30pm-9.30pm
25 February:  Leamington Hastings School: family learning session 7pm-8pm, community session 8.30pm-9.30pm

Gill Spencer, cluster co-ordinator for Extended Services said:  "This is a wonderful example of how a school can be a resource of the whole community, not just its pupils.  We hope many families will take advantage of the opportunity and come along, enjoy themselves and learn something fascinating.”
