Parenting sessions help families connect

Warwickshire County Council’s Extended Services division is to provide three seminars on different aspects of parenting to help parents to connect with their teenage children.

The three sessions, will be delivered by two trained facilitators, in the new Maslow Centre at Stockingford Junior School.  The sessions are open to parents of children in the West Nuneaton area as Extended Services continues to provide activities for the entire community through schools.

Seminar 1 takes place on Tuesday 2 March and is entitled Raising Responsible Teenagers, which helps parents to promote positive family relationships and a healthy lifestyle.

Seminar 2 runs on Tuesday 16 March and looks at Raising Competent Teenagers, by looking at how to help them make the most of their time at school.

The final seminar, on Tuesday 23 March and looks at Getting Teenagers Connected. Here facilitators will help parents with ways to encourage teenagers to become involved in appropriate recreational activities with supportive friends.

All the sessions will run from 5.30-7.00pm, with refreshments available from 5.15pm and places are limited, so reservations are required.  Seminars have been promoted through schools, but reservations can also be made by calling Julia Everitt, Extended Services Cluster Co-ordinator on 02476 341134 or 07826 534664.

Lorraine Jaeger, a Senior Parenting Practitioner with Warwickshire County Council, said:  “In my experience, nobody ever knows everything there is to know about being a parent; there is always something else to pick up.  These seminars, with the interaction between the facilitators and other parents, will be the ideal opportunity to gain ideas and support in the most difficult but rewarding role that many of us will ever have.”
