Connect2 Kenilworth is a step nearer

The new walking and cycling route for Kenilworth took a step forwards today when the proposed new bridge over the A429, Coventry Road, was granted planning consent by Warwickshire County Council's Regulatory Committee.

The new bridge was subject to extensive public consultation in October 2009, when residents and path users were asked to choose between three bridge designs.

The consultation results were clear, with more people choosing the plain design than the other two options combined. When the results were analysed just sampling residents in close proximity to the bridge, the result was even clearer with over two-thirds choosing the plain design.

Cllr John Whitehouse, Chair of the Connect2 Steering Group said: "The Steering Group for the scheme has worked hard to ensure the design reflects residents views and concerns.

"Right from the outset of Connect2, people have been clear that what is wanted is a clean, simple design that it fit for purpose, particularly given the location close to modern housing, within the busy streetscape.”

The committee heard representations from Kenilworth Town Council and two local residents on important matters about screening and access and granted consent subject to conditions regarding drainage, screening and design details for the bridge parapets / railings.

Detailed design work for the bridge is underway with construction planned for Winter 2010/11.
