Celebrate World Book Day
Young library borrowers in Warwickshire are getting the chance to celebrate World Book Day by seeing one of the most important books in history at the home of the world’s greatest playwright.
Warwickshire County Council’s Library Service has teamed up with Shakespeare’s Birthplace Trust to offer children free admission at Shakespeare’s Birthplace in Stratford-upon-Avon from 4-15th March.
As well as exploring the house where the Shakespeare story began, young library members will get the chance to see the First Folio, one of the most important books in history, in the new exhibition Life, Love and Legacy.
The offer is available to all Warwickshire residents with a valid library card. All you need to do is present your valid library card on the day of your visit for free entry for up to two children with every full-paying adult.
World Book Day, which takes place on Thursday 4 March, is the biggest annual celebration of books and reading in the UK. Warwickshire County Council is a strong supporter of the scheme and will be holding Rhyme Time and Wiggle and Jiggle sessions where children under 3 will be given World Book Day Vouchers worth £1. Children will also be able to put their vouchers towards any book, including The Book of Books, a £1 anthology published especially for the day which will be free to voucher holders.
Councillor Chris Saint, Portfolio Holder for Culture, Leisure and Housing at Warwickshire County Council, said: “Our Library Service is committed to promoting a lifelong love of reading and we are proud to be celebrating World Book Day with young people from across the county. We are also grateful to the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust for bringing our young borrowers closer to the county’s, if not the world’s, greatest writer.”
It’s free to join the library and to obtain your Warwickshire library card, sign up for membership at any Warwickshire library or online at http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/libraries
Warwickshire primary schools will also be marking the day by tucking into a special storybook themed lunch served up by the council’s caterers.
