Share your views on Stratford Parkway station plans

People are being urged to express their views on proposals to develop a new railway station in Stratford, near the Park and Ride site.

Stratford Parkway is proposed to be built adjacent to the existing Park and Ride site off Bishopton Lane, Stratford-upon-Avon.

Warwickshire County Council is holding a pre-planning application public consultation event this week to provide people with further information and an opportunity for them to share their views with the county council.

The plan is for a new railway station with good pedestrian and cycle links to the north and west of Stratford. Car parking for the station will be provided from the existing Park and Ride site.

It is expected that the development of Stratford Parkway will reduce car usage and pressure on local roads, delivering environmental and safety benefits and improving access to the rail network.

The new Parkway Station is programmed to open in March 2012 and will be delivered in conjunction with enhanced train services to and from Birmingham.

The county council is this week sharing outline design proposals for this development.

Cllr Alan Cockburn, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for the Environment, said: “We are keen to hear what local people think and explore with them any issues of concern prior to the submission of an outline planning application.”

The public consultation event will take place over three days at Stratford-upon-Avon Library and Information Centre in Henley Street, Stratford-upon-Avon, CV37 6PZ.

The event will be open from 10am to 5.30pm on Thursday, 4 March and Friday, 5 March from 10am to 1pm on Saturday, 6 March. Members of the public will have until Friday, 19 March, to respond to the consultation.

Feedback forms will be available at the consultation event and will remain in the Library until the 19 March. Information and an online feedback form will also be available from the 4 March at the following web address: http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/stratfordparkwaystation
