Specials School Challenge

Eight teams of students, from four of Warwickshire’s Special Schools are to compete for the opportunity to represent Warwickshire at the national final of the Consumer Challenge Quiz, in Edinburgh in June 2010.

And the teams are in for a special treat this year as the celebrity quiz masters are Coventry & Warwickshire Radio (CWR) presenters, Tim Boswell and Marion McNamee.
The schools entered are:
Round Oak School - Warwick
Oak Wood School - Nuneaton
Woodlands School - Coleshill
Welcombe Hills – Stratford Upon Avon

The quiz, organised by Warwickshire County Council’s Trading Standards Service, gives students aged 14 – 17,  with moderate learning difficulties, the opportunity to find out more about their consumer rights including rights and responsibilities, food safety, money matters and under aged sales.
All team members will receive a certificate, medal and prizes which have been donated by local companies including Calor, Apex Credit Management, Holland & Barratt, Wolseley, Carillion, Timberland and Warwick Castle.

Warwickshire County Councillor Richard Hobbs, Portfolio Holder for Community Protection said:

“Our Trading Standards Service is committed to helping young people to become empowered and confident consumers. This quiz is a fantastic event, not only enhancing knowledge of consumer issues but also teaching important life skills. Everyone attending the quiz from the teams to the students and teachers in the audience learns something; the whole event is fully participative.”

The winners of the Warwickshire Consumer Challenge Quiz will then represent the County at the national final of the competition, one of the centrepieces of the National Trading Standards conference to be held in Edinburgh in June 2010.
