‘BIGMOUTH!’ encourages young parents to give views

Warwickshire’s Respect Yourself Campaign is encouraging young parents to have their say about services they have used since becoming pregnant.

It is part of a follow up to the ‘BIGMOUTH!’ consultation in November 2008 – organised by the county council-led partnership – which gave young mums and dads, and parents-to-be, the chance to talk about their experiences of being a teenage parent and issues such as childcare, housing or benefits.

‘BIGMOUTH! revisited’ will take place at The Adventure Zone on the Somers Road Industrial Estate in Rugby on Thursday 15 April between 11am and 3pm, and is open to all young parents under 20 and their children from across the county.

This year it has been organised by The Inspire Young Parents group in Rugby with support from Warwickshire’s Respect Yourself Campaign and will include a range of family-friendly activities such as card making and beauty treatments.

Helen Fielden, Respect Yourself Campaign Co-ordinator, said: “The ‘BIGMOUTH! re-visited’ event provides a great opportunity for young parents to have their say about the services they have used, and to share their experiences with others in the same position.

“We can compare the feedback taken at this event with that from the 2008 consultation to see how things have changed across the county and whether professionals need to focus on any other area of work to further strengthen what is already available.”

A buffet lunch will be provided for parents and their children, and play facilities will also be available for use during the day.

Booking is essential, as places are limited. Please contact Helen Fielden on 01926 743056 to reserve a place.
