County grant for Community Radio
Internet technology and the provision of a Community Development Fund grant provided by Warwickshire County Council and supported by Atherstone’s County Councillor Martin Shaw, has led to the creation of an on line community radio station for North Warwickshire.
The station, to be known as NWR Radio is the brain child of local broadcaster and part time journalist Geoff Wilding.
Geoff is passionate about community issues and believes that too little is known by the general public as to what actually goes on in the Borough.
He said “All too often over the years I have heard the old chestnut that nothing happens around here. This is simply not true!
"North Warwickshire has a host of clubs, societies and interest groups. All of these good people carry out valuable work, often unsung for the benefit of the community at large. I want to give them a voice to promote their activities and inform the public at large as to just what is going on in and around North Warwickshire.”
Geoff has worked on several community radio stations over the years, mainly as a news editor and also as a guest on larger stations. His credits include, BBC CWR, Cross County Radio, Sky News, Channel 4 and many other test stations around the Midlands.
He added, “The station will be run with volunteers and thanks to the generous grant given by Warwickshire County Council we will be providing free broadcast training to anyone who is interested and will be able to purchase the equipment needed for the project. The station’s format will include music to suit all tastes, interviews with local personalities, local news bulletins and special event features together with promotion of all those groups out there who
add to the quality of life in the area.”
Anyone who is interested is invited to contact Geoff direct at geoffwilding@mail.ru or telephone him on 07884 390430.
It is planned to hold a social evening event in the near future to fully lay out the plans and aims of this new service for North Warwickshire.
