Ofsted hands out a glowing report
A Bedworth primary school has been praised by government inspectors for its strengths in leadership and governance, safeguarding and support for pupils.
Ofsted inspectors, who visited St James CofE Junior School in Barbridge Road last month, judged the school as ‘good’ with some outstanding features.
They recognised a number of strengths at the school and found happy pupils who benefit from a strong, well-planned curriculum.
The support and challenge from the school’s governors was deemed to be outstanding and leadership and management were praised. Inspectors noted that ‘The Headteacher and his senior team work very effectively to ensure their vision is shared with staff and pupils’.
Safeguarding was a key strength with secure processes and relevant policies found to be in place. The level of care, guidance and support for pupils was seen as excellent and Ofsted were impressed with how the school works with families and caters for pupils with additional needs.
Further compliments were made about effective learning at the school and the report stated that ‘lessons are generally successful because they are calm and well-planned, teachers are supportive and well-organised and most pupils are keen to learn.
The extremely positive outcome from the inspection comes at a time when the school is preparing to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its establishment on its current site.
Activities for pupils at the school are planned to take place in April and a special reunion party will be thrown for ex-pupils at Bulkington War Memorial Club at 7pm on 24th April.
Former pupils over 21 years old and their family and friends are invited to come along and meet up with old friends. Tickets for the event cost £3 and are available from Elaine Foster on 07530 145457. All profits from the evening will be shared between the school and Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
Headteacher Paul Ison said: “We are really pleased with this report from Ofsted which is a testament to the hard work of the staff and governors. It is very rewarding to receive a stamp of approval from the Ofsted inspectors.
We aim high at St James and will continue to make good progress and do the best we can for our pupils. Our upcoming anniversary celebrations will be a chance for pupils past and present to reflect on what have learned and enjoyed during their time at the school.”
