After school POD to launch at Welcombe Hills

Young people with special educational needs in Stratford are being invited to a new after-school club.

The Welcombe Hills POD offers 5 to 19-year-olds a range of activities including performing arts, sensory drama and film-making on Monday and Wednesday afternoons between 3.45 and 4.45pm. Six week projects will be run for young people, each aimed at different age groups and abilities.

Managed by staff from Welcombe Hills School and commissioned by Warwickshire County Council’s Positive about Young People programme, the free club aims to help young people increase confidence and self-esteem.

Regular ‘parents evenings’ will also be held for children to showcase work created at the POD throughout the year.

Jo Harris, Arts Co-ordinator at Welcombe Hills POD, said: “We are really looking forward to starting the POD after Easter and are excited about the activities we are able to offer.

“By focussing on the arts, it provides a perfect opportunity for students to express themselves in a fun and structured way, complementing the school’s recent success of becoming a specialist school for visual and performing arts.”

Lucy Creed, Youth Inclusion Officer for Warwickshire County Council’s Positive about Young People programme, said: “PODS offer young people somewhere to go, something to do and someone to listen, so we’re extremely pleased to have helped launch this after school club at Welcombe Hills.”
