From learner driver to rock fans – free online
Learner drivers can now practise their theory test online 24/7 thanks to a new, free service from Warwickshire County Council libraries.
The official Driver Theory Test is one of four new online options free to use at home, at any time. All you need is a membership card - and you can join for free at any one of the county’s 34 libraries.
There is also something new for library members interested in law, money matters or rock music who can now access the following web resources, from their home computers, for free:
CANs - an electronic digest of the laws of England, Wales and Scotland with explanations and up-to-date amendments.
Financial Times - an electronic store of this authoritative newspaper from 1996 to the latest editions.
Rock’s Back Pages - a rock chronicle of articles by renowned music journalists from the 1960s onwards, including interviews, album and concert reviews.
Warwickshire’s library service is subscribing to another new web resource and making it free to members via library computers. Screenonline is the British Film Institute’s extensive guide to the nation’s film and television history.
Virtual Library Manager Andrew Button said: “The library service has taken out 12-month subscriptions on five more electronic resources we think people will like and find useful. They can use four of them in the comfort of their own homes, at any time of the day or night, which is a real bonus. Our online library services never close.”
More than 100 other dictionary, language and reference works are already available free online - 24 hours a day every day - from Warwickshire Libraries, including:
Encyclopaedia Britannica
Oxford English Dictionary
Oxford Music Online
Oxford Reference
Oxford Art Online
Oxford Dictionary of National Biography
Naxos Music Library
