Fluffypunk and the poet’s trail
Local schoolchildren will follow Polesworth’s Poets’ Trail on Thursday March 25 - and hopefully find inspiration to create their own poetry.
Year 7 children from Polesworth School will walk the trail (10am - 12.30pm) and afterwards performance poet Jonny Fluffypunk will help them to produce their own verses.
The special day has been funded by Poetry on Loan and is the result of a joint project between the school and their local Warwickshire County Council library. Poetry On Loan promotes the reading and writing of contemporary poetry through the public library network in the West Midlands.
The Poets’ Trail, which opened in 2008, features a host of poems etched into woodcarvings, granite plinths and sculptures at five sites across the village.
Polesworth has a long and interesting history, as well as links to prominent poets like Ben Jonson, Michael Drayton and John Donne, so there should be plenty to inspire the schoolchildren on the day.
“We are hoping that the younger generation will take an interest in the trail and its poems as well as their local heritage,“ said Elaine Barker, Service Development Officer for Warwickshire Libraries.
“It will be really interesting to see how the children, all local to the area, will use the culture on their doorstep to develop their own creative talents. We hope that it will spark a new interest for them in contemporary and traditional poetry.”
