Youngsters boost hospice funds
Business brained youngsters have been putting some creative and innovative money making schemes into action, all in aid of Nuneaton’s Mary Ann Evans Hospice.
The youngsters from five local schools were participating in the Jaguar Social Enterprise Challenge, organised and co-ordinated for the fourth year running by the Warwickshire Education Business Partnership and sponsored by Jaguar.
The Nuneaton–based hospice is set to discover just how well the young entrepreneurs from five schools in Nuneaton and North Warwickshire have done at a Final Presentation Event today.
The five schools will present the hospice with funds the students have raised over the course of the last three months using a host of methods to turn £50 into as much as possible.
The challenge was started off at a launch event during National Enterprise Week in November 2009 where the selected students from the five competing schools were presented with £50 from Jaguar.
The challenge for the students was to turn this initial float of £50 into as much money as possible for the Hospice.
The students had to use their enterprise skills to come up with the most original fundraising ideas and will also had to prove how they have utilized their financial literacy and business and economic understanding throughout the challenge.
All participating teams will have the opportunity to present their methods and the results and there will be two winning teams – one for highest fundraiser and one for best use of enterprise skills.
Each winning team will receive a prize which will be presented by His Worship The Mayor of North Warwickshire along with April Wickens of Jaguar and Janet Griffin of the Mary Ann Evans Hospice.
The event has been organised by Warwickshire Education Business Partnership, a part of Warwickshire County Council, which aims to help better prepare youngsters for the world of work.
