Round Oak Rule On Consumer Rights
A team from Round Oak School, Support Service and Sports College in Warwick have won the County Final of the Warwickshire Trading Standards, Consumer Challenge Quiz.
The final was so close that only a tie break question could separate the winning team.
Eight teams from four Special Schools took part in the quiz held in Leamington Town Hall on Wednesday 10th March. Celebrity quiz masters Tim Boswell and Marian McNamee of Coventry & Warwickshire Radio posed the questions and ensured that an entertaining time was had by all!
The quiz is organised by Warwickshire County Council Trading Standards Service and is a great way of introducing pupils with moderate learning difficulties, to a wide range of consumer issues.
The competition covered consumer rights and responsibilities, food safety, money matters and under aged sales. The quiz also gives the children opportunity to develop essential life skills and build their confidence.
Warwickshire County Councillor Richard Hobbs, Portfolio Holder for Community Protection said “I would like to congratulate the Round Oak Team for their achievement. The final was so close; congratulations must also go to Oakwood School for coming such close runners up. I commend every participant of the competition for their hard work and effort.
“Yet again the quiz was a huge success. Warwickshire’s Trading Standards Service remains committed to helping ensure that young people are educated to become empowered and confident consumers.”
A number of sponsors supported this year’s event providing both prizes and funding. Sponsors included Calor, Apex Credit Management, Holland & Barratt, Wolseley, Carillion, Timberland and Warwick Castle.
The Round Oak School team will now represent the County at the national final of the competition, one of the centrepieces of the National Trading Standards conference to be held in Edinburgh in June.
The final results:
1st Place: Round Oak Team1
2nd Place: Oakwood School Team 2
3rd Place: Round Oak Team 3
4th Place: Woodlands School Team
