Come the Evolution! Schoolchildren get surprise guest visit

Extended Services cluster co-ordinator June Evans has staged a magical trip through history for the pupils of Kingsbury School in North Warwickshire.

As part of National Science Week, Charles Darwin was a special visitor to the school.  Joining him on the trip were some of the animals he discovered during a trip to South America at the event hosted by Extended Services.

Pupils, of all ages, from Kingsbury, Hurley, Wood End, Piccadilly and surrounding areas attended the event along with their parents enjoyed the chance to handle the animals and to hear Darwin recount the tales of his expedition.

A company, specialising in safe interaction with the animals, Animals in Hands, enabled children to touch the animals which included large snakes, guinea pigs and exotic insects.

June Evans, co-ordinator for the Kingsbury cluster, said:  “The event was a chance to involve the children at the school in National Science Week in a fun but greatly educational way.  Because we were able to extend the invitation to parents and other people in the community it became more than a school project but something that all the family could enjoy.”
