Warwickshire book award winner
The Warwickshire Secondary Book Award 2010 has been won by Sophie McKenzie for her novel Blood Ties.
Organised by Warwickshire County Council’s Schools Library Service, the Secondary Book Award encourages pupils across the county to read six shortlisted books.
The young people involved in the 2010 Award met regularly for several months to discuss the books before finally voting for their favourite from the selected titles.
At a celebratory event at the Bridge House Theatre in Warwick on Wednesday (March 24), attended by young readers from the 20 participating secondary schools, Sophie was presented with the Award and said how much she enjoyed talking with such an enthusiastic group of students.
Further entertainment was provided by performance poet and MC Ian Billings.
Stella Thebridge from the Schools Library Service said: “We were delighted that Sophie was able to be with us today to accept the award as was local author Emma Clayton, whose book The Roar came second.”
