Hats off to vintage fun
Thanks to an array of hats, fun times and fond memories were recently shared by residents at Caldwell Grange care home for older people in Nuneaton.
Social history expert, Annabelle Jay, known as ‘The Vintage Hat Lady,’ bought an exhibition of hats from the 1920’s, 30’s and 40’s, to share with the older folk at the County Council care home.
Deb Adams, Care Officer for Warwickshire County Council, explained that she had met Annabelle at Christmas time when the lights were being switched on in Nuneaton.
“I thought it would be nice for the residents to learn all about the social history of the hats, so I invited Annabelle to come to Caldwell Grange”, she said.
Residents and staff enjoyed trying on the hats whilst hearing about the history around them and who might have worn them.
Resident Francis Compton said: “It was really lovely trying on some of the hats that I can remember wearing as a young lady.”
“I felt really glamorous,” added Dorothy Grant.
Jacky West, Manager of Caldwell Grange said: “It’s been a lovely morning and has bought back fond memories for many people.”
