Academy approved by Minister
Warwickshire County Council and North Warwickshire & Hinckley College has today received full Government backing to open an Academy in Nuneaton.
Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) Minister Vernon Coaker has confirmed that the new Academy can open in September as planned.
The Academy will open initially on two sites in existing buildings at Alderman Smith and Manor Park schools. A brand new school building with first class facilities will later be developed on the current Alderman Smith school site, and is planned to be completed by September 2013.
Councillor Izzi Seccombe, Warwickshire County Council’s Cabinet member for Children, Young People and Families, said: “This is good news which has been awaited for some time, and we are now very glad to have received confirmation of final approval for the Academy from the Government. It will see a new school established to improve the educational experience and attainment of children in West Nuneaton.
“The Minister has been very supportive of our intention to open the Academy, and now we can continue to make this a reality. Our goal has always been to ensure we can deliver a high quality and inspirational learning experience to raise standards, nurture talent and transform lives.”
Warwickshire County Council has joined forces with a strong educational partner in North Warwickshire & Hinckley College. The college is rated as ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted.
College Principal and Chief Executive Marion Plant said: “I am delighted the Minister has given final approval to the plans and very proud that the College is now confirmed as sponsor of The Nuneaton Academy. This is a very exciting milestone in the journey towards the creation of Nuneaton’s flagship Academy and we are looking forward with much anticipation to its opening in September. As sponsor, we are absolutely committed to ensuring the Academy will provide an excellent learning environment where young people can flourish and we hope to continue working closely with the local community to ensure the Academy is the best it can possibly be.”
