Spring clean and reuse
Spring cleaners are being urged to think of the environment as they go for the big annual clear-out this weekend.
Traditionally a popular time to blitz the home, many perfectly good household items end up in the waste stream, when they could easily be reused.
Cllr Alan Cockburn, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for the Environment, said: “It’s very true that one man’s rubbish is another man’s treasure, and we should all remember that when cleaning out this spring.
“There are plenty of ways to get items to people who want it, quite often raising thousands of pounds for local charities.”
Warwickshire County Council, a part of Warwickshire Waste Partnership, is encouraging local people to donate unwanted items for reuse rather than throwing them away.
Many people discover unwanted items when spring cleaning which are too good to throw away. All across Warwickshire there are many voluntary or community organisations that will gladly take unwanted items, still in good condition, such as furniture, electrical appliances, and bicycles. Residents can also try offering their unwanted items on the internet by using the Community Freebay website (http://www.communityfreebay.org.uk) or using a local Freegle group (http://www.freegle.org)
