Master the art of composting

The hunt is on to find local people who want the opportunity to train and volunteer as Master Composters.

Warwickshire Waste Partnership, a partnership between Warwickshire County Council and the county’s districts and boroughs, is working with Garden Organic to bring Warwickshire residents the chance to become Master Composters.

The aim of the Master Composter Programme is to reduce organic waste going to landfill, through the promotion of home composting.

Volunteer Master Composters work to raise public awareness of the benefits of composting by encouraging more people to compost at home and to help those who already compost to do so more effectively.

Each Master Composter will attend two days training on how to promote home composting. It does not matter how much composting knowledge individuals have as the course will cover all the details.

In return the volunteer will agree to spend at least 30 hours, over the following year, promoting home composting in the local community, before ‘graduating’ to become an official Master Composter.

Promotional activities can take the form of talks to local community groups and schools, taking part in community events or even talking to neighbours about composting problems. Promotional Material and uniform will be provided.

The training is planned for Friday 30th April and Saturday 1st May 2010 at Garden Organic, Ryton-on-Dunsmore.

Anyone interested in becoming a Master Composter to help spread the composting word and are available for the training dates, please contact Caroline Faulkner, Waste Project Officer at Warwickshire County Council on 01926 412458 or e-mail waste@warwickshire.gov.uk to request an application form.
