Support for older people in Whitnash

Improving support for older people in Whitnash will be one of the main themes of the next Whitnash Community Forum, which is being held on Wednesday 21st April 2010 at 7pm at the Acre Close Community Centre.

The meeting will be taking stock of issues previously raised by older people living in the area and looking for ways to improve the support they receive.

Councillor Bernard Kirton, Chair of the Forum, said: “In 2008 our first Community Forum focused on gathering the views of senior citizens living in the local area.

“People came along and told us their experiences of day to day life, and the Forum committed to addressing some of the areas felt to be lacking.

“The Senior People’s Luncheon Club run by Cllr Kitty Crutchley came about as a direct result of the feedback we received, and it continues to be a valuable social support network for a lot of people.

“Local resident Mrs Clough also came forward with the offer to run a coffee morning, which was well received by attendees.”

Sergeant Andy Scruton, Team Leader for Whitnash Safer Neighbourhoods Team said: “The development and progress of points discussed at Forums show just how important community input is in exacting change. By attending this Forum you can help us to address issues affecting the older community in Whitnash.”

The next step for the Forum is to ask local residents whether enough has been done and to ask for new ideas about how to improve older people’s lives. Everyone is welcome to come and contribute their thoughts and ideas.

Other issues being discussed at the Forum include policing priorities for Whitnash and NHS Warwickshire’s new ‘single point of access’ system that everyone will be using to receive health services in the future.
