Mow your lawn the modern way
A cutting-edge new kind of lawn mower, which recycles the clippings as you mow, has got the environmental experts at Warwickshire County Council in a spin.
Residents in Warwickshire are being urged to consider purchasing a mulching (or recycler) mowers when a replacement is needed.
Unlike conventional mowers which collect grass clippings, new style mulching lawn mowers operate a system which recycles the clippings as the lawn is mowed.
Mulching mowers chop the grass clippings into fine particles which are then pushed right down into the turf out of sight. There are no grass bags or collectors to empty and no trips to the compost bin. The result is a perfect lawn finish that’s 30% quicker to mow.
Nicola Small, Sustainable Project Officer with Warwickshire County Council, has invested in one of the new mowers.
She said: "We’ve moved to a new house with a 120ft lawn. When I used my standard 13inch mower and collected up the clippings it took me over 2 hours to do the lawn, and I filled 2 compost bins. We decided to invest in a 16inch Recycler and we just couldn’t believe the difference - the lawn took 45 minutes to cut and we are still bewildered as to where all the cuttings went! I can’t recommend them highly enough."
Using a mulching mower recycles grass clippings in a way that actually feeds the grass. As the clippings decompose nutrients and fertilisers are returned to the soil, grass can be cut and fertilised at the same time resulting in a fuller, healthier looking lawn.
