John has been appointed by the county council on an interim basis to help shape the future of adult social care in Warwickshire.

John was previously the Director of Strategic Finance at the Department of Health, responsible for social care since December 2007; where he led on both the delivery of “Putting People First” – the Government’s vision for adult social care, and in helping councils make the best use of their resources.  Prior to working for the Department of Health, John was the Director of Community Services at Coventry City Council. John started his career in Warwickshire as a Trainee (and then as a social worker) 39 years ago.

Over the next six months John’s key focus will be the transformation of adult services for residents in Warwickshire while strengthening partnership working with health. John will also lead on the implementation of personalisation in Warwickshire which is giving people greater choice and control over the services and support they receive.

Chief Executive of Warwickshire County Council, Jim Graham, said: “We are delighted to welcome John Bolton who has many years experience in health and social care and a strong track record at both a regional and national level. In Warwickshire we face significant demographic challenges with an ageing population and John’s role will be to work closely with health to transform our services and improve working practices.”

John Bolton said: “I am pleased to be back working in Warwickshire where I started my career some 40 years ago.  I hope to help the council build services that will meet the care needs of residents over the next decade.”

John Bolton replaces Dr Graeme Betts, who has left Warwickshire after four years to become Executive Director of Adults, Community and Leisure for the London Borough of Newham.
