Young parents turn out for ‘BIGMOUTH! revisited’
Over 90 young parents, children and professionals in Warwickshire have taken part in a follow up to a consultation about services they’ve used since becoming pregnant.
‘BIGMOUTH! revisited’ was organised by the Inspire Group from the Bradby Club in Rugby in association with Warwickshire’s Respect Yourself Campaign to investigate the views of young parents – and parents to be – on a range of subjects such as benefits, housing and health services.
Supported by a grant from Warwickshire County Council’s Youth Opportunities Fund, it was held on Thursday 15 April 2010 at Adventure Zone on the Somers Road Industrial Estate in Rugby.
A range of activities were on offer for parents and children including soft play, crafts, pampering and a video diary, and the aim of the event was to build on the outcomes of the original ‘BIGMOUTH!’ consultation in November 2008.
Helen Fielden, Respect Yourself Campaign Co-ordinator, said: “BIGMOUTH! Revisited provided young parents with a great opportunity to share experiences of services in Warwickshire.
“We will use this feedback to build on the work that we already do to improve the life chances of teenage parents and their children”.
Some of the comments from young parents about the event included: ‘it helped me build my confidence’, ‘I enjoyed getting together with other young mums…’ and ‘I loved the day, I hope there are many more to come.’
