Lower Meadow in bloom
More than 20 volunteers have taken part in a ‘Ground Force’ style effort to transform the garden of an older people’s residential care home in Stratford.
The team, who work for National Grid, completed a one-day makeover of the garden at Lower Meadow care home as part of the company’s community volunteer programme in partnership with Business in the Community.
The county council is delighted that one of its care homes was chosen for the project which will benefit 40 older people who are residents or use day services.
The volunteer team repaired fencing and pergolas; sanded and painted woodwork; tidied shrubs and planted flowers; installed a bird-box and table; and created a raised bed vegetable patch so that residents can do more gardening themselves.
National Grid team leader Martin Hadfield said: “The team worked really hard during the makeover, everyone was really excited and passionate to be able to provide a garden which the residents can enjoy.”
Resident Kenneth Reading, aged 92, was delighted with the results and said: “I think it’s wonderful.”
Dawn Bluck who manages Lower Meadow for Warwickshire County Council said: “The garden at Lower Meadow makes a huge difference to the wellbeing of our residents and we are grateful to National Grid for making it a wonderful place for older people to use whether they want to enjoy the sunshine, do some gardening or entertain their families.”
