Firefighters successfully tackle factory blaze
Around 50 firefighters from Warwickshire County Council's Fire and Rescue Service have successfully tackled a blaze at Abbey Metal Finishing Co Ltd.
Fire crews were called to the incident at Weddington Road, Nuneaton at 6.03am this morning. On arrival crews were faced with a fire at a factory which was well alight. Due to nature of the business, fire crew asked residents living in the immediate area to keep windows and doors closed whilst the fire was being put out.
Assistant Chief Fire Officer, Simon Frost said:
“The fire is now out and fire crews are damping down at the scene. Crews will be on-site now for the rest of the day. Any initial concern regarding the smoke plume has now passed and our primary focus is to ensure the scene of the incident is safe and that a full investigation into the cause of the fire is undertaken.”
Alan Franks, Environmental Services Director, said:
“Now that the immediate danger is over residents in the surrounding area can resume normality. Officers of the Council will be monitoring the environmental impact of the fire but initial findings at this point indicate that there is no cause for concern. We would like to pass on our thanks to the emergency services for acting so swiftly in tackling the situation.”
