A data remember for Warwickshire website

Warwickshire County Council has announced the launch of its open data website, joining other authorities such as London, Lincoln, Lichfield and Kent who have already started opening up their data to the public.

The site currently holds information ranging from school admissions to the locations of recycling centres. Officers anticipate a further period of development in which the site is built up as the focal point for all public facing information, but positive steps have been taken to build the foundations of future work with data.
By making data freely available, the council hopes to provide a greater level of transparency about its work. The aim is to stimulate engagement and collaboration in the development of websites, applications and services to benefit citizens and visitors to the area.

Over the next few weeks, the council will be launching a “Hack Warwickshire” competition, challenging the developer community to create tools, applications, and ”mash-ups” using the county’s data with the goal of producing useful tools for the local community and visitors to Warwickshire.

The public can visit the open data site at http://opendata.warwickshire.gov.uk or get in touch by e-mail at opendata@warwickshire.gov.uk.
