May start for library makeover

Wellesbourne Library will now close for alterations on Saturday May 15 at 12.30pm. The revised temporary closure date follows a short delay while makeover details were finalised.

The building in Kineton Road is being extended to make room for a new Children’s Centre on site, and the library will be refreshed and updated at the same time.

Temporary mobile library services will be provided in Wellesbourne while the building is closed for alterations, which are expected to take about six months to complete.

Divisional Library Manager Tanya Butchers apologised for the delay, and for any inconvenience caused by the temporary closure, but said the changes being made were good news for Wellesbourne and would benefit the local community.

“Automated self-service check-outs, for borrowing and returning books and other loan items, will be one of the new features when Wellesbourne Library reopens later this year,” she said. “There will also be a flexible training room for improved learning facilities.”

Tanya said the new Children’s Centre will offer a range of activities for parents and under-fives including ‘stay and play’, ‘messy play’, and mini gardening. There will be an outside play area and a toy library. The centre will also provide local people with easy access to support services such as midwives and health visitors.

“It’s all very exciting so I hope the people of Wellesbourne will bear with us, over the coming months,” said Tanya. “I’m sure the changes being made to the library will be worth the wait.”

Further details on the interim mobile library service will be issued shortly. More information is available online at: warwickshire.gov.uk/libraries
