National stage beckons County Choristers

Less than six months after their formation, the Warwickshire County Choristers have been chosen to appear at the National Festival of Music for Youth in July.

When they appeared at the regional festivals in March, the fifty strong choir of were praised for their beautiful singing. With reviews describing them as ‘impressive’, having a ‘stunning natural sound’ and giving a ‘spine-tingling performance’, it was no surprise to the choir’s director Garry Jones when the boys were selected to perform alongside other nationally renowned choirs in Birmingham’s prestigious Symphony Hall.

“It is a wonderful achievement,” commented Mr Jones, “they have come so far in such a short space of time and it is great that their quality has been recognised at a national level.”

Choir member Elias Tritter, aged 11, of Leamington Spa said: “It’s amazing, I really enjoy singing with the Choristers and I feel very proud that we will be able to sing at the festival.”

The Choristers, aged between 8 and 14, are all advanced level members of the larger Warwickshire County Boys’ Choir. They will be travelling to Birmingham on July 6 and hoping that their performance will lead to an invitation to appear at the renowned ‘Schools Prom’ at the Albert Hall in November.

Andrew Atkins, Director of the County Music Service, said: “We are all very pleased with these young singers who show so much ability and commitment.  They have reached a very high standard in such a short time and have a bright future ahead of them.”
