North Warwickshire needs a voice

A group which works to address older people’s issues across the county is concerned that North Warwickshire won’t have a voice at its next meeting.

North Warwickshire is the only area in the county not to have a representative on the Warwickshire Older People’s Partnership despite appeals for volunteers to step forward.

Chris Lewington, Service Manager for Carer & Customer Engagement at Warwickshire County Council, said: “We are keen that older people in North Warwickshire have a voice on the Older People’s Partnership Board.

“This is a positive opportunity to make a contribution to the lives of older people and we would urge anyone who is interested and aged over 50 to apply for this voluntary post.”

Warwickshire Older People’s Partnership plays a vital role setting the agenda and shaping the future direction of services for older people across the county. The group works closely alongside the county, district and borough councils and partner organisations to ensure the views of older people are heard. The group addresses key issues including housing, health and care, and was instrumental in setting up PHILLIS, a preventative service which improves the wellbeing of older people.

There is currently one voluntary position available as seven representatives have already been appointed. The successful candidates will represent older people in their community and will work with others to make a real difference to the way services are provided.

Although the post is voluntary, expenses will be paid and applicants should be enthusiastic and committed to making a difference. They should also have some experience of working at a strategic level, be good communicators and able to make a commitment to co-ordinating the views of older people in their area.
