Patrols on parade

The often unsung heroes who ensure thousands of youngsters get to school safely in Warwickshire are to be celebrated this week.

Around 70 of Warwickshire County Council’s School Crossing Patrols will be gathering for their annual get together in Bedworth organised by Warwickshire’s Road Safety Team.

Patrols for all over Warwickshire use the opportunity to meet up with each other, discuss key issues and listen to guest speakers.

This year, Cllr Richard Hobbs, the county council’s Community Safety Portfolio Holder will be presenting long service awards with a special presentation being made to Beryl Warburton who has been a patrol in Nuneaton for 35 years.

Stan Milewski, Principal Road Safety Officer said: “As lone workers, the event is the only opportunity patrols get to meet up with friends and colleagues throughout the year.

“This year they will be discussing important issues such as coping with extreme weather conditions, especially snow and ice and how to deal with aggressive drivers and pedestrians.”
