County choirs compete for top title
200 singers from across the Warwickshire are representing the county at the Warwick Arts Centre at the BBC Choir of the Year’s regional heat on Sunday May 16.
The tuneful youngsters aged 7 – 19, from four of the County Music Service groups, will be battling against each other and other choirs from around the West Midlands region for a place in the next round of the competition.
The County Boys’ Choir, County Junior Girls’ Choir, County Girls Choir and Warwickshire County Youth Chorale have all been rehearsing hard in their areas to perfect their performances and are ready to take to the stage.
Competition adjudicators Sue Hollingsworth and Gillian Dibden have both won Choir of the Year with their own choirs and will be expecting a high standard of singing which the groups are sure to deliver.
Sheila Russell Head of Voice and Choral for the county council service said: “This is a wonderful opportunity for all our singers who are looking forward to the competition joining other choirs in an exciting day of singing and performing.”
