Warwickshire County Council’s Fire and Rescue Service are now recruiting on-call firefighters at locations throughout the county.
As part of the Fire and Rescue Service modernisation agenda, a number of different approaches to crewing fire stations and duty systems have been considered.
Policies which allow the transfer of firefighters across a range of duty systems and stations around Warwickshire have already been implemented and full-time firefighters have been recruited into urban areas. In addition the service is now recruiting on-call firefighters into the rural parts of Warwickshire
Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Services Chief Fire Officer, Graeme Smith said:
“Our aim is to be more flexible with the use of our full-time and on-call firefighters. To achieve this we need to consider both the urban developments and rural communities in providing operational response to emergency situations as well as proactive community safety activities.
“With this in mind we want to recruit on-call firefighters to maintain some of our part-time fire stations at their required staffing levels.
"We also intend to continue to enhance the innovative and flexible ways in which we deploy our full-time firefighters in support of rural communities Primarily this will include deploying a small number of full-time firefighters into part-time station areas to undertake community fire safety activities, gather operational information, supplement day-time fire cover arrangements and to undertake other routine, station-based activities.”
The recruitment campaign begins on Wednesday 12 May and will run until 11 June 2010. Further details and on-line application forms are available on the Service’s web-site at http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/oncallfirefighters.
