DVD helps young people make right choices

A DVD helping young people in Warwickshire make the right choices in life is being launched in Rugby later this month.

The film, called CHOICES, has been created by and stars young people from the Good Days 2 programme, managed by Warwickshire County Council’s Positive about Young People programme.

With help from Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service, ‘CHOICES’ highlights the potential consequences of making a bad decision at an early age – such as joining a gang, bullying or getting involved in crime – and how it could affect them later in life.

It will be launched in front of a number of invited guests at a special viewing at the Benn Hall in Rugby on Wednesday 26 May from 1pm.

Sonia Brench, Senior Activity Worker, for Warwickshire County Council’s Positive about Young People, said: “Crime, gang-culture and bullying are just some of the topics covered by the film to highlight how choosing these routes can have consequences to the life chances of those involved.

“What makes this effective is that young people are portraying the potential situations other young people may find themselves in, helping them make an informed decision when faced with any difficulties.”

Cllr Richard Hobbs, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for Community Safety, said: “The CHOICES project is a very effective way of young people doing their bit to help other young people realise the consequences of making bad decisions, and how they can avoid slipping in to a life of crime.”

Good Days 2 provides a range of programmes to help meet the educational needs of pupils referred by Warwickshire’s Early Intervention Service. Using alternative educational programmes, the Good Days 2 team help young people achieve economic wellbeing through employment, education or training.
