Pete Waterman opens new station

On Saturday the15th May, Peter Waterman and Warwickshire County Councillor Chris Saint, accompanied by the EWR Chairman Mr Brian Thomas, officially opened the extension and new station at Far Leys on the Echills Wood Railway in Kingsbury Water Park.

Peter Waterman a well-known entrepreneur and a supporter of railways of all types was joined by Cllr Chris Saint of Warwickshire County Council.

The guests were transported to the new area by two trains, each having two model steam locomotives in the front of the coaches.

Mr Waterman said:  “The development of the railway in the park will give pleasure and a transport system to the community park.  The Echills Wood Railway should be praised for their efforts in the short time they have been at the park.”
   
The station and extension will now give passengers a ride of over two kilometres, and allow a visit to the children’s play area at the top of the park.

The extension and station was built by the hobby group who operate the railway every Sunday, and bank holiday throughout the summer. The station was sponsored by the EWR ladies group, who were formed to raise funds for projects on the railway.

Members and guests enjoyed some light refreshments at the new station before retuning by train to Harvesters Station near the parks visitors centre.
