Crimebeat project helps tackle cyber-bullying
Young people in Stratford District are targeting cyber-bullying as part of a new project set up with funding from Warwickshire Crimebeat.
A group of 10 to 14-year-olds from the Lower Quinton POD – managed by Warwickshire County Council’s Positive about Young People – have developed a mouse mat encouraging victims of online bullying to report it.
It features the message ‘Think b4 you click’, warning young people to take care when using social networking sites, emails or text messages.
It also highlights ways to report cyber-bullying such as the CEOP ‘report it’ button featured on many websites and the number for the national bullying helpline – 0845 22 55 787 (national rates apply).
Fiona Rellis, Activity Worker for Warwickshire County Council’s Positive about Young People programme, said: “The idea behind the mouse mat is to help young people report cyber-bullying quickly by identifying how it can take place and how best to report it if they are a victim or know someone who is.
“They have really worked hard on this project and they hope it will go someway to stop bullying.”
Warwickshire Crimebeat is continually looking for groups of young people to apply for funding. For more information contact Mark Bolton, Operations Development Manager, on 02476 754174 or email markbolton@warwickshire.gov.uk.
