‘Stop, think, quit bullying’
‘Stop, think, quit bullying’ is the message from school children in Leamington who have developed a new anti-bullying campaign for young people.
Working with Warwickshire County Council’s Positive about Young People programme (PaYP) and with funding from Warwickshire Crimebeat, the 8 to 11-year-olds from Lighthorne Heath Primary School created t-shirts featuring a poem written by one of the students on the back and wristbands calling for an end to bullying.
The merchandise was distributed among pupils during a special assembly last week (Friday 28 May) when Vanessa Williams, project leader for Positive about Young People, unveiled the designs.
She said: “After deciding on an anti-bullying message, the group of young people spent a number of weeks developing the t-shirts and wristbands, creating their message and writing a poem about bullying.
“They have worked incredibly hard and they are really excited about the result of their efforts. They’ve had lots of support from their Headteacher who has set aside an area in the school to promote the great work they are doing.”
Jeanette Hiatt, Acting Headteacher at Lighthorne Heath Primary School, said: “The children have been really motivated by this project and we are delighted with their achievements.
“Our work with partners such as Positive about Young People is really important to our school Community Cohesion strategy and we hope to build on this success.”
