Busy bee retires

A dedicated worker is retiring from her role at a care home in Rugby to explore the word of beekeeping.

Warwickshire County Council’s Abbotsbury care home recently bid a fond farewell to Care Officer Janet Watling.

Janet has retired after nearly a decade of service at the home for older people. Residents, colleagues, family and friends gathered to thank Janet and wish her well.

Janet moved in to care work 15 years ago after a career change. Her first role was with Rugby MIND before moving on to Abbotsbury.

Janet said: “I wanted to do something where I could make a difference to people’s lives.  Working with older people has been a pleasure and a privilege with lots of laughter along the way.”

“I have enjoyed my time at Abbotsbury so much that I am planning to return as a volunteer.  I am particularly keen to continue some of the reminiscence and life story work I have started with people.” she added.

Wanda Cichola, Manager of Abbotsbury for Warwickshire County Council, said: “Janet has always been committed to everything she does.  Her passion and dedication to our residents cannot be matched.”

“Janet will be missed by all, but we wish her a happy and healthy retirement.” she continued.

Janet is looking forward to spending time with her husband and family, and has one or two new adventures in the pipeline.  She is looking into keeping bees which is something she has wanted to do for many years.

Janet is also keen to work on a novel loosely based on the lives of her grandparents.

“I have been doing some research for the book for the last couple of years, so am eager to start writing it.” She explained.
