Makeover message from Rugby Library

Every effort is being made to keep Rugby Library open while it gets a well-deserved makeover, a decade after it first opened.

But building works mean a temporary change of entrance for most of June.

Visitors are advised that, from Thursday June 3 until Monday June 28, access to Rugby Library will be via the door near the drop-off box in the Percival Guildhouse Gardens. Anyone needing level access for wheelchairs, pushchairs or walking aids, will need to enter the library by the rear Emergency entrance next to the Percival Guildhouse, near St Matthew’s Street.

Corinne Harvey, Divisional Library Manager, said Warwickshire County Council apologised to customers for any inconvenience caused by the temporary entrance arrangements.

“It’s hard to believe, but our lovely library is now 10 years old, and it’s time to make a few changes,” she said. “The refurbishment includes a new layout, an expanded Local Studies area upstairs, and more space for displays downstairs. Changes are also being made in the teenage section.”

Rugby is one of the busiest libraries in the county - but customers will soon be able to borrow and return loan items without queueing at the counter, thanks to the introduction of automated self service machines as part of the makeover. The easy-to-use system, known as ‘RFID’ - Radio Frequency Identification, can scan a pile of books, or other borrowed items, in or out in one go.

“The improvements at Rugby are part of a wider and ongoing refurbishment of libraries in Warwickshire," said Liz Wood, Service Improvement Manager for Warwickshire Library and Information Service.
