Creative union brings new life to old instruments
Old musical instruments in Warwickshire which can no longer hold a tune will be given a new lease of life thanks to a county partnership.
Warwickshire County Music Service and Weave Recycle have joined forces to find an exciting way to ensure the musical instruments will now be used in other creative ways.
Weave Recycle is an educational recycling resource which provides Warwickshire’s early year’s practitioners and teachers with training to encourage creative approaches to the delivery of the curriculum.
The service will use the instruments donated by CMS to in a variety of ways to promote artistic expression and learning opportunities.
For example they may be used in art departments as inspiration for visual expression or they could end up in pre-school settings where young children’s explorations and investigations can lead to exciting new language and learning opportunities.
Warwickshire County Councillor, Heather Timms, Portfolio Holder for Children Young People and Families said: “The County Music Service instruments involved in this project can no longer be used for tuition so this is a great way to ensure they are still enjoyed by children and young people.
“The project is an excellent example of how the county council reuses resources to save money and reduce waste and I’m sure it will hit the right note with our schools and early years providers.”
The County Music Service provides a wide range of music making opportunities offered through schools and communities for the Warwickshire residents. For more information, visit http://www.musicforlife.net or call 01926 742630.
