Teachers check out hotel trade
This week 15 teachers from schools and colleges across Warwickshire will have the opportunity to experience ‘behind the scenes’ life at one of the leading hotel groups in the West Midlands.
On Friday the teachers will be based at the Stratford Hotel, Stratford upon Avon, one of three in the Q Hotels group in Warwickshire.
Teachers will get the chance to hear from professionals and experience day to day life in each of seven departments, from accounts through to housekeeping.
In the afternoon, the delegates will do some work on preparation for the Travel and Tourism and Hospitality Diplomas.
The day has been organised by the Warwickshire Education Business Partnership (WEBP), part of Warwickshire County Council, in conjunction with Q Hotels.
Julie O’Toole, Business Development Manager for the WEBP, said: “Days like this are invaluable for all teachers in order that they can keep up to date with relevant industry developments.
“This is even more important for those delivering the Diplomas, as links with businesses will help teachers deliver the 50 per cent applied learning requirement, using real life examples from the workplace.”
The Travel and Tourism and Hospitality Diplomas are being run in the South of Warwickshire from September 2011, but employers are being asked to get involved even at this early stage so that they can have some input into the curriculum that will be taught.
Julie O’Toole added: “Q Hotels have embraced the Diploma, having put themselves forward as ambassadors for the qualification. Their involvement in the Diploma and in hosting this day is very much appreciated by all those attending.”
Company involvement is vital to the success of the Diplomas and need only involve as much of employee’s time as is available. Anyone interested should contact Julie O’Toole on 01926 736420 or julieo’toole@warwickshire.gov.uk
