Rugby school’s ‘Glee’ tribute goes global
When teaching staff from Bilton School in Rugby recorded a take-off of ‘Don’t Stop Believin’ from the hit TV show Glee, they didn’t expect to make news in America.
Staff made the video as a tribute to this year’s departing Year 11 pupils who left the school last week for GCSE study leave. It was shown to the students as part of their celebration assembly on 27 May.
The spoof was posted onto an internet blog written by Director of Learning for Years 10 and 11 Lynne Harris’ son Scott. A blog follower from New York saw the piece and forwarded it to Fox News which ran a news item featuring clips from the video on 30 May.
Headteacher Patsy Weighill said: “It was a real joy to be involved in creating this for the students. The standing ovation when the clip was aired to our Year 11 students was magical and demonstrated the real warmth that characterizes relationships at Bilton.”
Warwickshire County Councillor Heather Timms added: "I was so pleased to see the staff at Bilton School get this recognition for their touching tribute to the school’s departing Year 11 pupils.
“The staff obviously put in a lot of effort and had a great deal of fun making something so memorable for the students and it’s amazing to think that people in America and elsewhere in the world are also enjoying their work.
“I join them in wishing all the students the best of luck as they move on to further education or the world of work."
