Youngsters look to 2010 and Beyond
Over a thousand young people from local schools will descend on Coombe Country Park from 9th – 11th June to take part in an event to raise awareness of sustainability and environmental issues.
Schools from across Coventry and Warwickshire will be attending the three day event ‘2010 and Beyond’ at Coombe Country Park, near Coventry.
Pupils will be kept busy with a series of workshops each aiming to encourage the children to think about the impact their everyday lives have on people and the planet, and give some simple ideas for making a positive difference.
The aim of the event is to offer fun, interactive and thought provoking workshops that will encourage children to make positive changes to their lifestyles.
With the emphasis on interaction, the children will hunt for minibeasts in the meadow and woodlands, uncover the secret and vital world of composting and learn about global sustainability of food and water.
Energy efficiency and travel to school will also be explored through hands-on workshops, while the ‘Wild Man of the Woods’ will outline the relationship with nature through song.
The event is organised in partnership by Warwickshire County Council, Coventry City Council, Rugby Borough Council, North Warwickshire Borough Council and Action 21 and is now in its ninth year.
Hannah Collett, 2010 and Beyond event coordinator, said: “This annual event gets excellent feedback each year from both the teachers and young people who attend. We are delighted to be working with so many partner organisations to enable local youngsters to get out of the classroom and to learn about environmental issues in a fun and interesting way.”
