Master the art of composting
Local people are being given the chance to become masters in the art of composting as part of a special programme from Warwickshire Waste Partnership, working in partnership with Garden Organic.
Residents can train and then volunteer as Master Composters. The aim of the Master Composter Programme is to reduce organic waste going to landfill, through the promotion of home composting.
The role of volunteers is to raise public awareness of the benefits of composting by encouraging more people to compost at home and to help those who already compost to do so more effectively.
Each Master Composter will attend two days free training on how to promote home composting. It does not matter how much knowledge they have as the course will cover all they need to know. In return they will agree to spend at least 30 hours, over the following year, promoting home composting in the local community, before ‘graduating’ to become an official Master Composter.
Promotional activities can take the form of talks to local community groups and schools, taking part in community events or even talking to neighbours about composting problems.
Training will take place on Friday 9th and Saturday 10th July 2010 at Garden Organic, Ryton-on-Dunsmore, Coventry.
