Rugby Schoolchildren take journey through imagination
Children at three Rugby schools have been enjoying a week of artistic endeavour culminating in a parade from Brownsover Community School to the junior and infant schools at Boughton Leigh.
The cluster co-ordinator for Rugby north has worked with the headteacher Elisa Basnett to provide a week in which the theme for the activity has been ‘journeys’ with year groups from nursery and reception, through to years one and two, choosing their own themes.
Nursery and reception children, following a recent trip to the zoo, explored a safari adventure, Year 1 travelled back in time to an age of dinosaurs whilst Year 3 travelled to rainforests in South America.
Warwickshire County Council’s extended services team has funded additional tutoring so that the children of both schools can work around these themes in a variety of disciplines.
The week started with Arabian Nights, a session where the children worked with a storyteller creating tales based around their themes. Day two saw music workshops and dance workshops provided the activity on day three with children from both Boughton Leigh Juniors and Infants working together with pupils from Brownsover Community School.
Pupils from both schools were full of praise for the activities they had been involved in with comments including:
" It was great fun, I loved stomping along and making new friends" which came from a Brownsover pupil and "We enjoyed dancing with the other children," a comment from a Boughton Leigh Infant pupil.
Councillor Heather Timms, portfolio holder for Children, Young People and Families, said: “Creative activities are an ideal way for children to form lasting bonds and friendship.
“This has been an opportunity for children who live near to each other, but might not have had much previous interaction, to get to know and appreciate one another. That bodes very well for the present and future cohesion of the community.”
