National final for boys’ choir

Warwickshire Boys’ Choir beat the competition at BBC Choir of the Year’s National Selection Stage and the boys are set to sing their hearts out in the children’s category final later this year.

The boys’ choir is the only singing group from the West Midlands to make it into this last heat before the grand finale. They will compete against Inverclyde Schools’ Junior Choir, Westminster Boys’ Choir and New Forest Children’s Choir for top children’s group at Birmingham’s Symphony Hall on 6 November.

The winning children’s choir will go up against adult, youth and open category winners in the Choir of the Year Final to be broadcast on BBC1 on 8 December. Everyone at the county council music service and the choir member’s families and friends are backing the boys to take the title.

Choir Director Garry Jones said: “This is brilliant news and a remarkable achievement by all concerned. The talented boys’ truly deserve their place amongst the best four children’s choirs in the country and I’m confident they can sing their way to the top.”

Warwickshire County Councillor Heather Timms, cabinet member for children young people and families added: “Well done to all involved and good luck to the boys with the next stage in this competition.”

The County Boys’ Choir has over 100 members, aged 8-14 who come from all over Warwickshire.
