A young Warwickshire dance and rap group highlighting the consequences of getting involved in knife crime has been recognised at the Warwickshire Chief Constables Award ceremony.
Streetz Productionz – made up of Rugby’s Street Ikons Community Dance project and Whitnash-based rap duo Streetz R Watching – received the ‘Neighbourhood Watch Award for Young People’ during the event at the Warwickshire Police Learning and Development Centre in Warwick on 23 June 2010.
The group – managed by Warwickshire County Council’s Positive about Young People programme - uses various methods to get their messages across and is being recognised for its work using dance, rap and poetry to portray ‘gang culture’ and to highlight the devastating affects of knife crime.
Michael Maguire, Head of Positive about Young People, said: “The project has gone from strength to strength, visiting local businesses, schools and communities to remind young people about the consequences of getting involved in knife crime or gang culture.
“So this award recognises their efforts to make communities in Warwickshire safer, and we are really proud of what they have achieved so far.”
